5 Ways to get A’s this Semester

Back to the grind…

Guys, we have some bad news … as you’ve probably noticed, school is about to start back up once again. Instead of crying over the end of everyone’s favorite season and the omnipresent workload, we’ve decided to go into it with a positive frame of mind this year. With that in mind, we’ve come up with a list of 5 tactics to ensure you get the best grades yet in all of your classes this semester.

Stay Organized

Whether your organizational weapon of choice is a giant calendar, iPhone, or agenda, staying organized is crucial for a successful semester. Not only will you be able to track important dates and schedule studying time, but with a standardized scheduling system, you will have peace of mind due to a direct overview of all of your tasks, commitments, and due dates.

Find your Workflow

One of the hardest parts of getting your semester in order is finding your workflow. From in-lecture reviews, reading, writing assignments, and studying for tests/quizzes/exams, it’s no secret that students are bombarded with work. However, figuring out which ways you work best make tackling this workload a breeze. Map out your workflow, and stick with it! Need some extra guidance? Try using Trello.

Schedule Studying Time

This goes without saying, the more you study, the better you will do on exams and tests. Even if it’s once a week to review the notes you’ve taken and concepts you’ve covered in your lecture, scheduling study time is an inherently critical activity when aiming for high grades. You’ll be thanking yourself when you no longer feel the need to stay up all night, cramming for the next morning’s midterm. No matter how many classes you’re taking on this semester, scheduling study time will help you get that A! Do you prefer studying on-the-go? Check out Cram (thank us later).

Live Healthily

This probably isn’t the first you’re hearing of a healthy lifestyle being relative to good grades. This is because proper sleep and healthy food ensure your brain is in an optimal state to learn and retain information, and your energy levels are where they should be. Nothing’s worse than feeling drained and still having a 3-hour lecture to attend before going home…

Attend your Classes

Ok, this one goes without saying, yet may be the hardest of them all. Attendance and good grades are inextricable from one another. Despite cold wintery mornings, getting out of bed and to class is guaranteed to improve your grades. Feeling like skipping out on some readings? All the more reasons to get your butt to classes! You won’t regret it.

Your Ultimate Guide to Osheaga 2017

It’s time!

306021_b4169f81a0fddff86c6a9987ffc9275aba8ad80a

Everybody’s favourite weekend has finally arrived; it’s time for Osheaga once again. The 3-day music and arts festival kicks off tomorrow afternoon marking 3 days of non-stop music, events, and contemporary art displays. Whether you’re on Osh veteran or a heading out for the first time this year, the festival can be absolutely hectic. To help you navigate the chaos and get the best out of your weekend, we’ve created the ultimate Osheaga 2017 Handbook composed of essential tips and tricks to assure a magical time.

#1 Plan ahead- download the app.

index

Don’t end up telling your Osheaga story with the line “Oh no we didn’t know what stage they were on/when they were playing so we missed them”-  plan ahead! The official Osheaga 2017 mobile app is your go-to tool. Not only is jammed packed with features to get you hyped for the festival, but there’s both a comprehensive lineup overview with dates, times, and stages, as well as an awesome functionality to create your own schedule complete with notifications. That’s right, there’s no excuse not to plan (and stick to) the perfect schedule for this weekend.

#2 Bring lots of water… for the line.

osheaga-always-water-bottle

With copious amounts of people in attendance and a forecast of sunny hot weather, bringing water for the lineup in is absolutely essential. Although you can’t bring outside liquids in, it’s important to stay hydrated throughout the wait – which can amount to anywhere from 10 to 45 minutes. Oh, and pre-hydration is the also a great way to avoid $5 water bottles for a little while at least.

#3 Visit Osheaga Village.

osheaga-2016

You can’t complete the Osheaga experience without spending some time in Osheaga Village. Perfect for some downtime between sets, Osheaga Village spans through the park and forest areas of Parc Jean Drapeau. Consisting of amazing interactive and static art setups, spots to chill, games, and other attractions, this section of the festival is worth checking out just as much as the shows.

#4 Check out the commercial areas.

IMG_2088_zps7263d63f

Another great Osheaga perk? There’s a ton of free stuff. From shoes and clothes to energy drinks and makeup, the commercial area is filled with top brands setting up fun activations for festival goers to enjoy. Need some convincing? Last year NYX Cosmetics set up a free touch up station, while Vans Montreal opened a mini skate park, and H&M had a full on party going on inside their tent. Needless to say, the commercial is definitely a must-see for new and veteran Osheaga goers alike.

#5 Eat something delicious.

food_drink

Have you been to First Fridays yet? If not, you’re in luck as Montreal’s awesome food truck scene shows up for the fun at Osheaga. From iced coffee spots to mid-day waffles or Montreal favorite Mandy’s, the food choices at this festival are nothing short of amazing. Get the full experience by trying one of the many great food options this weekend, you surely won’t regret it.

7 Ways to Decompress After Finals

Chill out a little.

You made it! Well, hopefully. Now that finals are officially over, it’s time to let go of that corresponding stress. That being said, after having been in that mindset for a month (and may longer cause well essays), letting go of that stress and shifting your frame of mind  isn’t always easy. Luckily, we’ve come up with a list of our favorite ways to decompress post-finals.

Head to the Spa

BotaBota2

What better place to decompress than a spa? Take advantage of the zen surroundings and therapeutic baths to calm yourself down and get ready for the all the new adventures coming your way this summer.

Get a Message

massage16

Sometimes stress can literally physically take a toll on your body, making a relaxing massage an ideal way to chill out after finals. You’re sure to be feeling renewed yet relaxed; the perfect mix of feelings to begin your summer.

Take a Day off

You probably haven’t had a day where you focused on absolutely nothing in a while. No school, no work, no responsibilities – take a day to literally do and think of nothing. Not only will you give your brain a break from the over-drive mode it’s likely been in over the past month, but you will start your next day with a completely new outlook and fresh vibes.

Exercise

jogging

Since you’ve probably been too busy to stick to your ~strict~ gym regiment, take some time out to hit up an exercise class or start a new workout routine/program. This will help you get a fresh physical start for the summer, while simultaneously giving you brain a break and releasing healthy positive endorphin to ensure you start this summer on the best note (oh and get a rockin’ bod).

Spend a day on the Water

become-sup-yoga-certified

Sometimes a change of scenery is all you need to decompress. Whether it be on a paddle board, at a beach, or on a dock, heading out to the water will surely help de-stress and get some much-needed vitamin C.

Buy a Plant

house-plants-decor-grouping-0213

It’s science! Houseplants actually help you calm down, and serve as an air purifier. This two-in-one solution will help you get back into a serene mind sight for clear thinking. Need a suggestion? Try on of these plants for best results!

Treat Yourself

swiss chocolate

Whether it be through chocolate, shopping, a glass of fancy wine/craft beer, or any other one of your favorite ways to pamper yourself, treat yourself to something just slightly indulgent after your hard work this scholastic year! This is not advocating over-indulging in really any activity, but there’s nothing wrong with a little self-reward after hard work.
Take a day to pursue one of these decompressing suggestions and start your summer off with a fresh, stress-free mind!
