It’s Official, This is The Best Way to Get Around Montreal!

Never walking again!

Guys, there’s big news in the world of transportation in Montreal this week. As any true Montreal student knows, Bixis are the best. Whether you grab a bike to head to school, get to a friend’s house, or to explore your city, the convenience of Bixi stations all around the city is invaluable. The only unpleasant part of Bixi’s price system is the $100 deposit fee and the fact that a credit card is required to go through with the bike rental. Unfortunately, these requirements have stopped countless tentative Bixi renters, time and time again.

Luckily, that’s all about to change. This week a joint effort between Bixi and STM was announced. In simpler words, Montreal transportation and Bixi have teamed up to offer a deal for all Montrealers. Now, with the ownership of an OPUS card, any individual is free to rent a Bixi directly from their card! Not only will this increase accessibility for all users, but it means a fundamental switch in their price model. For instance, when renting a Bixi with your Opus card;

  • No more Credit Cards!
  • No $100 Deposit!
  • No Wait times!

Sounds too good to be true, right? Well, it’s not (thank god). In fact, getting access to the 540 participating Bixi stations is as simple as registering your Opus card on the Bixi site. Register and ride!

If you ever wonder why people in this city are so patriotic towards living in Montreal, it’s because of the countless things that make this city undeniably ~awesome~, and completely unique. If you’re not exactly sure what we’re talking about, this list may just be your answer:

I don’t think there’s a type of food that exists, that you can’t find in Montreal. The food here is DELIGHTFUL.

From Old Port to the Plateau Mount Royal, every part of the city is SO different and full of it’s own culture and history (street art, architecture, food, and more).

There’s always cool things around the city– a giant zip line through the city, an urban forest, free musical swings in the downtown core… need I say more?

And somewhat adding to the previous point, fun is encouraged! Montreal doesn’t ban things in similar style to other cities- in fact, Montreal has a by-law that even allows you to drink in public on Sunday’s if you have food on you. Yes, the city is setting you up for the perfect picnic day.

Doesn’t matter the time of year, the city adapts to each season; it’s a winter wonderland during the winter with events like Igloofest, the Olympic Village, and Fete de Neige,  and easily one of the top places in Canada to spend your summer with huge events every weekend.
