How to Celebrate St Patrick’s Day in Montreal

New to Montreal and don’t know where to head to for the St Patrick’s Day? Well, here is all that you can do to make your day great with your gang. It is believed that if there is one thing that Montreal knows for real, is the celebrations of the St. Patrick’s Day. The whole city comes to life for the colored drinks, vibrant nightlife and a lot of interesting, eye catchy green costumes.

St. Patrick’s Day Parade

image 1Starting the pompous parade from the Fort and Ste-Catherine streets and ending on Metcalfe, this is one of the oldest events being held in Canada. Dating back to 1824, the tradition is carried out with the same zeal and zest with almost 500,000 attendees each year. That makes like more than half of the town’s population attending!! So you wouldn’t want to miss on the utter fun!

Hurley’s Irish Pub

image 2

If you want to witness some real live Irish dancing, Hurley’s is definitely the place! Jam-packed with enthusiastic dancers breaking loose, its quite a task to fit yourself into the bar for St. Patrick’s day. But if you succeed in doing so, you won’t regret being there. The décor and live music and the happy crowd make it feel like a free landing at Dublin!

Mc Kibbin’s Irish Pub

image 3

You may want to start your day by being at McKibbin’s brekkie, starting from 6 serving till 10:30 am. Accompanied by the steaming authentic Irish coffee the breakfast is served with live music to sensitize the taste buds to a total Irish experience. Unlike Hurley’s the place is more roomy with its all three floors available to serve you at best on a St Patrick’s day!

Le’ Trifle

image 4Not exactly a cliché’d Irish pub, Le Tre’fle offers a wide variety of onion rings, wings and a great selection of beer. A great variety of scotch is also available to make your day a whole lot better!

Irish Embassy Pub and Grill

image 5

You may start the day boozy with a mere $15 breakfast which also includes Irish coffee.  The Friday I before St. Patrick’s Day, this place holds a live broadcast from rock station. On the St Patrick’s day, the pub opens early for breakfast and the rugby match, England versus Ireland is screened along with the live music in the afternoon and evening.

While Montreal has a notable Irish heritage, yet have relatively few Irish pubs to accommodate large numbers of revelers. That means those few venues can get messy, and full of crowds sporting green apparel, fast. However, no matter wherever you go in the world, you will reminisce the St Patrick’s day spent in Montreal. Because Montreal does it like none other!

Your Ultimate Guide to Osheaga 2017

It’s time!

306021_b4169f81a0fddff86c6a9987ffc9275aba8ad80a

Everybody’s favourite weekend has finally arrived; it’s time for Osheaga once again. The 3-day music and arts festival kicks off tomorrow afternoon marking 3 days of non-stop music, events, and contemporary art displays. Whether you’re on Osh veteran or a heading out for the first time this year, the festival can be absolutely hectic. To help you navigate the chaos and get the best out of your weekend, we’ve created the ultimate Osheaga 2017 Handbook composed of essential tips and tricks to assure a magical time.

#1 Plan ahead- download the app.

index

Don’t end up telling your Osheaga story with the line “Oh no we didn’t know what stage they were on/when they were playing so we missed them”-  plan ahead! The official Osheaga 2017 mobile app is your go-to tool. Not only is jammed packed with features to get you hyped for the festival, but there’s both a comprehensive lineup overview with dates, times, and stages, as well as an awesome functionality to create your own schedule complete with notifications. That’s right, there’s no excuse not to plan (and stick to) the perfect schedule for this weekend.

#2 Bring lots of water… for the line.

osheaga-always-water-bottle

With copious amounts of people in attendance and a forecast of sunny hot weather, bringing water for the lineup in is absolutely essential. Although you can’t bring outside liquids in, it’s important to stay hydrated throughout the wait – which can amount to anywhere from 10 to 45 minutes. Oh, and pre-hydration is the also a great way to avoid $5 water bottles for a little while at least.

#3 Visit Osheaga Village.

osheaga-2016

You can’t complete the Osheaga experience without spending some time in Osheaga Village. Perfect for some downtime between sets, Osheaga Village spans through the park and forest areas of Parc Jean Drapeau. Consisting of amazing interactive and static art setups, spots to chill, games, and other attractions, this section of the festival is worth checking out just as much as the shows.

#4 Check out the commercial areas.

IMG_2088_zps7263d63f

Another great Osheaga perk? There’s a ton of free stuff. From shoes and clothes to energy drinks and makeup, the commercial area is filled with top brands setting up fun activations for festival goers to enjoy. Need some convincing? Last year NYX Cosmetics set up a free touch up station, while Vans Montreal opened a mini skate park, and H&M had a full on party going on inside their tent. Needless to say, the commercial is definitely a must-see for new and veteran Osheaga goers alike.

#5 Eat something delicious.

food_drink

Have you been to First Fridays yet? If not, you’re in luck as Montreal’s awesome food truck scene shows up for the fun at Osheaga. From iced coffee spots to mid-day waffles or Montreal favorite Mandy’s, the food choices at this festival are nothing short of amazing. Get the full experience by trying one of the many great food options this weekend, you surely won’t regret it.
